Met de techniek van tegenwoordig is het ontwikkelen van foto’s (KODAK) overbodig geworden. Zelfs dia’s kunnen met al onze apparatuur al ingescand worden. Het politiedepartement van New York heeft in de afgelopen decennia alle zaken bijgehouden met foto’s. Van moordzaken tot bankovervallen, alles werd als bewijs vastgelegd. Nu gaan deze foto’s, dankzij the National Endowment for the Humanities, gedigitaliseerd- én online geplaatst worden.

De digitalisatie van de NYPD archief foto’s maakt deel uit van een groter project wat wordt uitgevoerd door the New York City Municipal Archives die al 870,000 bestanden van de 2.2 miljoen foto’s, video’s en audio files online plaatste.
